What is NEMT?
Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) is scheduled transportation for Medicaid members and other patients to medical appointments, dialysis, therapy, and pharmacy visits, when the trip does not require an ambulance. Most NEMT trips are dispatched and paid through a state Medicaid program or a broker the state contracts with, such as Modivcare, MTM, Access2Care, or SafeRide.
Do I need special licenses to operate NEMT?
It depends on your state. Most states require a state business registration and a state Medicaid transportation provider enrollment, and some states or counties add a separate transportation or livery permit on top of that. What insurance do brokers require?
